The 4 Big Decisions are the fundamental component of our program:
*Elevate PLP core results
The program addresses teacher shortage and over-burdened staff by training local service staff to assist schools. This may include teachers, SSOs, or Youth Workers, depending on their duty of care. The program’s focus on engagement, happiness, and optimism among students contributes to a more positive classroom environment, ultimately alleviating the burden on teachers and reducing behaviour issues.
For 2024, the program aims to establish a long-term partnership with your school. The cost includes comprehensive support, including program evaluation, resources, and trainer support. YO also collaborates with the school to seek financial support from various sources. This approach is designed to ensure a strong and mutually beneficial partnership.
A change of scene from their regular classrooms is recommended although it is not mandatory. You could look for alternatives like local clubs, libraries, or council chambers can be considered.
Schools are encouraged to evaluate their existing programs by assessing their effectiveness and alignment with their challenges. If current programs are successful, the school might consider delivering YO’s Accelerate to a different age group, enhancing the overall provision of leadership programs to meet specific school needs.
The program runs for 8 weeks, one day a week, preferably off-site (at a place near shops or kitchen for lunch), with flexible break times.
Staff training is provided at no cost delivered during two full days locally and includes weekly community practice calls.
Staff need approximately 10 hours of preparation per week. This includes 6.5 hours for program delivery, 30-45 minutes for using the learning platform, 45 minutes for trainer meetings, 1 hour for follow-up tasks, and 1 hour for Teams Calls.
Support includes Teams Calls, individual coaching calls, a discussion forum, and access to teaching resources.
The program has been thoughtfully designed to address this concern. Each day of the program comes with a detailed plan outlining the tools and activities to be delivered. Additionally, the Moodle Resource offers individual session plans for each activity, making it easier for staff to use preprepared session plans rather than creating them from scratch.
The program focuses on personal leadership, which is valuable for all students, including high achievers. It provides an opportunity for them to learn new skills and refine existing ones, such as goal planning, organizing, and developing positive habits for future success.
Research results indicate that students who participate in the program are not worse off, and in fact, they often show improvements by term 1 or term 2. The program helps these students by teaching them valuable skills such as planning assessments and seeking support, ultimately leading to increased engagement. For disengaged students, this program provides an opportunity to consider their future, evaluate aspirations, and set goals, which can be highly beneficial.
With the right trainers and environment, individual buy-in can ensure students attend and benefit from the program.
