Youth Opportunities Record-Breaking Golf Day 2018

25 May 2018 / Schools, Supporters, Team

Youth Opportunities 11th Annual Charity Golf Day took place on Friday May 11 and what a day! Glenelg Golf Club – along with presenting sponsors Tanti Constructions and wine sponsor Serafino Wines – helped us welcome 138 of SA’s top business leaders and YO supporters to enjoy a fantastic day of competitive golf to raise crucial funds for our program.

Despite a chilly start to the day, our golfers made their way onto the green after a hot breakfast and it soon brightened up! Our wonderful sponsors on the course, including Phil Hoffmann Travel, NAB, Perks and Brighton Foodland, made sure our golfers were kept thoroughly entertained with plenty of great food, drink stations and entertainment throughout the day. A brand new Holden was even up for grabs on Hole 16 to any lucky golfer able to hit a hole-in-one, thanks to Hamilton Holden. After an exciting day of play, Brighton Crash were the victorious team – taking home the Lee Newton Cup!

At the end of the day, our players, partners and associates descended on the clubhouse for an lively evening event, hosted by our MC Chris Dittmar, and an auction with Phil Rogers from LJ Hooker at the helm. Were pleased to announce the whole event raised over $85,000, a record for a YO Golf Day!

But the highlight of the evening was our inspiring student speaker, Mikey, who graduated from the Youth Opportunities program at Woodville High in Term 1 this year. Mikey’s story really brought home why we were all there and why our program is so important to many young people across SA:

“Coming from a background of homelessness and hanging around the wrong crowds, my life was falling apart I realised I really wanted to see a positive change in my life. I had heard other people got a lot out of Youth Opportunities. I decided to join the program, and I’m so glad I stuck it out. Who knows where I would be now without it? I now know even on bad days that I can get through everything. I know that I AM a strong person, that I AM valid and people do generally care about me. I would have never been able to see this before Youth Opportunities and, now that I can, I am so thankful and can achieve my goals”.

A huge thank you goes to the Golf Day organising committee of Eddie Bell, Pat Carpenter and Grant Martinella along with supporters Joe Paparella, Bob Loveday and Lee Newton. Many thanks to our presenting sponsor, Tanti Constructions and wine sponsor, Serafino wines and to our gold sponsors: Hamilton Holden, Phil Hoffmann Travel, NAB, Glenelg Golf Club, Eureka Hotel Group, WRP Legal & Advisory and Nova Entertainment. Thank you to our silver sponsors: BankSA, Geek, Holdfast Insurance, Perks Integrated Business Services, PPI Funds Management; our bronze sponsors: Amorini, BuildTec Group, Foodland Brighton, Radio Rentals and RJE Global; and our general sponsors: Coca-Cola Amatil, Carlton & United Breweries, Coopers, Lion, Drummond Golf Darlington, Weekends Surf Co and Golf SA.

To all our auction donors who generously donated items and experiences support us in fun and unique ways, thank you also, on behalf of the YO team.

It’s through the incredible support of all those involved in Golf Day we’re able to raise vital funds to ensure we can support people in need across SA – helping them to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
