“I joined Youth Opportunities because I felt the need to grow my confidence and become more assured in myself, I really disliked the way I would talk down on myself and belittle myself.  

My most challenging time during the Youth Opportunities Personal Leadership Program was working on my communication skills. I felt like a burden whenever I would feel the need to talk about myself, therefore, I’d just swallow it and move on. However, it always stuck with me, it was like walking around with a massive boulder on my shoulders, and the weight was becoming unbearable. By not being able to communicate, I struggled immensely with my mental health and mind battles.

During the Youth Opportunities program, I had the opportunity to practice communicating, and I am now so proud of myself for speaking up and talking with my mum. I always knew deep down she’d understand and help me through the challenges I was facing, but part of me was holding me back due to not wanting to add any more to her plate.

Overall, Youth Opportunities has shown me a whole new perspective on life. I am eternally thankful for this opportunity and will show this by continuing to use the strategies I was taught well down the track. I have grown to be a more confident and patient person who has goals and aims that I plan on reaching.
