Make-or-Break Challenge – small changes, big impact!

13 June 2023 / Schools, Training

For the month of May, Youth Opportunities ran our inaugural Make-or-Break Challenge, and we are excited to announce we have exceeded our targets and expectations.

Thanks to our ambassadors, challenge champions, sponsors, participants, and donors we have raised $102,000. Whilst the campaign aimed to raise much-needed funds, the expansion of Youth Opportunities’ reach is something that cannot be understated, informing more people of the life-changing programs and wraparound services we are able to offer.

Those participants who chose to make a habit focused on increasing their exercise, wellbeing, personal development, and family time, while those breaking unwanted habits included cutting vices such as alcohol, sugar, and junk food.

The challenge had many great fundraisers with the top three being:

  • Nick Karasoulos, raising an astonishing $15,000. Nick chose to break the habit of drinking alcohol over the 21 days – thank you, Nick;
  • Peter Carey OAM, who raised $6,986 also cutting alcohol for the challenge, and
  • Jamie Briggs, who raised $4,222 and made better environmental habits, cutting waste by only using keep cups and reusable shopping bags.

We are thankful to our Ambassadors Rebecca Morse, Chris Dittmar, and Jane Doyle OAM for using their public profiles on radio and/or social media to share their challenge journeys, along with our youth Ambassadors Faraja, Lou, Chloe and Mussa who all extensively demonstrated the value of being personal leaders.

Presenting Partner, National Pharmacies, dollar-matched donations in the final week of the campaign which boosted our fundraising significantly. We would like to acknowledge PwC for hosting our launch morning tea, and Corporate Partners, Living Choice, EDP, PhysioXtra, and the Hurley Hotel Group for their support.

Thanks to all participants and donors for your participation and generosity. We can’t wait to see even more people create healthy habits in the 2024 Make-or-Break Challenge and raise funds so we can support more young people to thrive.
